Frequently Asked Questions

The first & primary advantage is that we can ensure our health and safety by following the State & CDC guidelines of maintaining social distancing while we face the challenge of COVID 19 pandemic and what better way than a virtual class?

  • Being able to drive is a privilege and a necessity. With the distance learning access, we can start the class independent of any situation and other unexpected circumstances.

  • Studying online gives you more flexibility. You can work and fit your work schedule around your coursework more easily.

  • By studying online, you choose your own learning environment that works best for your needs. Taking an online course also means that you don’t have to commute to class, which means less time spent on the commute and more study time sitting at home.

  • Studying online will help you become more self-motivated and enhance your time-management skills, traits that will make you stand out.

  • Online courses offer shy or more reticent students the opportunity to participate in class discussions more easily than face-to-face class sessions. Some students even report better concentration in online classes due to the lack of classroom activity.

Even the most basic online course requires the development of new computer skills, as students learn to navigate different learning management systems/ programs and Improve your technical skills.

You do not need a learner’s permit to start the class – in fact, you can begin the class as early as age 15.  Many students find that taking the class first helps them to pass the MVA learner’s permit test later when they apply for a permit.  (You can apply for a learner’s permit at the age of 15 and 9 months.)

The course consists of two parts:  a classroom portion, and behind-the-wheel portion.  Students may take the classroom portion without a learner’s permit, and then return for the on-the-road training after they have obtained their permit.

Individuals who have never held a non-commercial, Class C, driver’s license are required to complete an MVA-certified Driver Education course in order to obtain a driver’s license.  This rule applies to all Maryland residents, regardless of age.
